I have a few beginners in this book now. What a time saver this book brings to the lesson. Cassia has created a friendly way to get students involved with playing their violins day one. One of the most difficult things to get a new student to do is create a beautiful sound both with plucking, and bowing. This method helps achieve this before adding too many ledger notes at the student. Songs are introduced first with finger numbers, and rhythms, so the focus of playing is with technique first, then note reading.
As the book states; “This book is an introductory violin method for the absolute beginner.†And that is what you get.For the cost it is better than most beginning books. All of them start with Twinkle, twinkle and Hot Cross Buns.Easy to read (big print, easy to read from music stand distance) and follow.It will get you along and then you will put it away, just like all other beginning books.
I did not like this. Perhaps it helps if you have a teacher. But if you are learning on your own, or if you have ADD forget it. There is so much info on each page it’s overwhelming and it doesn’t explain what it’s showing you. Also everything is crammed on each page, you can’t even write in notes. I like writing in G,D,A,E, above the notes so that I can memorize the names of the notes as I play.I found Fiddle Time Joggers much easier. It is very basic, and gives you little short songs so you can memorize the notes and helps you drill it in your head in a fun way. You feel satisfaction as you learn each little tune. It also has enough space on the page if you want to write in the names of the notes. It also has a cd so you can hear what some of the songs should sound like. I don’t have a CD player but if you have one you might like using the CD as well.So like I said if you have a teacher, this may work for you. But if you are teaching yourself, you might want to try Fiddle Time Joggers.
mostly songs, tho' a few easy -to -read concepts inside, very basic. cute, recognizable songs, letters on the notes, even larger print- perfect for the older, um, *nervous* beginner needing lots of repetition and hand-holding. i'm sure kids will enjoy using it, too (lots of cute, smiling characters). i'll be buying book 2.
My daughters tells me that she likes the book very much. That it is user-friendly and she is learning a lot.
Good book! VERY BEGINNER LEVEL. This is the basics. Literally, the basics....perfect for a young (or old!) beginner.
Very easy to understand
This book was very good for learning sight reading and (or) keeping the bow in the center while crossing strings. It also hives practice in using long bow.
