This is the third book about museology that I've read lately (and reviewed here). The others are "Dry Storeroom #1" by Richard Fortey, about the Natural History Museum in London, and "Curators" by Lance Grande, about the Field Museum in Chicago. This book is about a museum that no longer exists--the Jenks Museum at Brown University, an idiosyncratic omnium-gatherum created as a personal project by zoologist John Whipple Potter Jenks. The museum scarcely outlasted its curator. Though little trace remains of it today, historian Steven Lubar (yes, of Brown) uses it as a jumping-off point for discussions of why museums exist, what they are good for and what they are good and not so good at doing, and how their missions have and have not changed since Jenks' time. He provides deep and insightful, and utterly candid, commentary on the surprisingly diverse views of these issues within the profession of museology. Unlike Fortey and Grande, he includes art, technology and archeology collections in his discussions. There is a lively discussion going on right now about whether museums have gone too far at adopting high-tech tools to engage young visitors; you will find an up-to-date review of the debate in these pages. It is a curious fact that a book about a museum that no longer exists actually has more to teach the lay reader than either of the two current books about major museums that are alive and well. But all three books have their charms; if you are interested in the why, how and wherefore of museums, by all means read all three.While I was reading this book, the business section of the New York Times published an article headlined "A collector's dream: creating your own museum as a legacy" (September 30, 2017). The kind of very personal vision that drove Jenks survives, and the museums that may eventuate will in good time face the same test as the Jenks museum: once the visionary who created them is gone, will anybody care? Will anybody come?

In an engaging fashion, he manages to cover the entire museum landscape – art, science, and historical. Thoroughly enjoyable.

This was excellent. My boyfriend and I have been talking much more seriously about marriage, and went through this book together. We would read the chapters outloud, answer the questions on our own, then compare. We got some great discussion out of it, including some things we hadn't considered. Even though we were both nervous to begin with, we both understood that it would be better to hash things out now, before getting engaged, instead of later down the line.Also, there's very little fear-mongering in this book, which we both appreciated (we're paranoid enough on our own). We get it, marriage is hard. I think some pre-marital books are a bit heavy handed on that side of things. Not this one! It's very candid, but accessible.Further, the authors really have a knack for asking questions in such a way that you may actually answer them honestly ;) For example, they ask "If someone was concerned about your relationship, what might they say (whether or not you would agree)?" It's very clever writing, and got us both to open up and be honest with ourselves and each other.

I have read both this book The Sacred Search Couple's Conversation Guide and its companion book The Sacred Search. If you are a truly committed follower of Christ and you want to make a Biblical decision regarding a potential marriage partner, this book is essential! If used with a prayerful and open spirit and - if possible - an Awesome, professional Christian Counselor like Dr. Steve Wilke, this book will help you have the tough conversations every couple should have BEFORE they get married (or, rather, ENGAGED) so that you do not make a mistake in this lifetime decision. These conversations are difficult to have but imperative to vetting your potential marriage partner and determining if this person has the same life and spiritual goals and desire to follow God as you do. I only wish I had this book prior to my (failed) marriage. Before I marry again, this book and process will be a required commitment of my 'potential' prior to considering a marriage relationship. Anyone who is not willing to do this work prior to engagement and marriage, probably should not get married. Marriage is an option, not a requirement. we should each make sure that if we are exercising this option, we are honoring God and following Him in our decision making process. This book will help you to do this. Make sure you pick up two sets - one for you and one for your potential marriage partner!

I first heard about this book on FamilyLife Today radio hosted by Dennis Rainey. This book provides practical advice to Christian singles everywhere on how to approach dating in both attitude and behavior. It reminds us that we ought to focus on the "why" instead of the "who". This approach enables readers to re-evaluate their motives and priorities to help align their standards with that of the Word of God instead of pop culture and modern society. This is a must read!!!

We found it very useful with my girlfriend to get to know each other & to strengthen our relationship. (Even though, we don't agree fully with the title because we think there will always be some amount of uncertainty in your decision.)

This book asks some heavy and hard questions - which is exactly why I found it to be worthy of 5 stars. A great resource for an engaged couple, but also for anyone who will be counseling/mentoring an engaged couple.

This author is one of the best on the subject on relationships. I highly recommend it, very practical questions to ask before marriage.

I ordered book 1 with no knowledge or expectations of it, and it turned out to be pretty decent sci-fi. It's long, but keeps your attention with no boring moments. Author writes in first person from each character's view and creates a future on earth that is a believably good story. Well written, so I plan to read the series.

I have a hard time getting into books lately. This one sucked me in for a little while but I had a hard time finishing it. But it was a good story and I’d recommend it to apocalyptic story lovers!

I love the post apocalyptic genre and this was one of the best. I could never have guessed any of the twists and turns before they happen. I couldn't put it down. The only thing wrong with this story is that it had to end.

I really enjoyed all of the books. I fell in love with all the characters. It’s definitely a good dystopian series to read.

I thought that this was just the first book in the series and was sad that there wasn't more when I finnished.

Stories do have to end, but some do leave you wanting more. The Sky by J.w. Lynne does just that. Well written.

I purchased The Sky, not realizing that it was all 4 books in the series in one book. When I read the last page at 74% completion, I was extremely confused. I turned the page, and there is a note talking about needing beta readers for the next book in the series. Suddenly, I wasn't upset that the author was just going to leave us all hanging with a worse-than-Sopranos style "ending." I hop on Amazon and after a few short minutes, I realize that's exactly what she did. The Sky (the complete series in one book) stops at 74% - the rest of it is book stuffing, which is, as I'm sure you all know, highly frowned upon in the writing community - especially here on Amazon.The first few chapters of The Sky was difficult to read and hard to keep up with. There are, at times, no indication that what's happening is really just a memory. The words aren't written in italic or anything. It's only after you're done reading the fuster-cluck of what might have been a memory, that you actually realize that that's probably what it was. As the book (my apologies - apparently, SERIES - - ) continues, it gets much easier to read and keep up with. Until you hit 74% of the book and without any explanation, without any answers to the hundreds of questions you're left with, without any clue as to what's going to happen to the characters or anything, the book (sorry - - "series") abruptly ends. Report my review, get mad at it, whatever. I'm glad that I only borrowed the KU version and didn't actually pay for the series, because I would have returned them for my money back. As a fellow author, that is something I look down on and have never once done. That should tell you how incredibly...I don't even know, what, it is. I had never read a book (again with that word - "SERIES") that made me want to launch my laptop through my front window before. I had never before read a "series" that made me feel like the entire thing was just a joke. That it was only written half way through then abruptly ended, as a big middle finger to any potential readers. Until now. In my 30+ years of reading, this is the first "series" I've ever read that has made me entirely sure that I couldn't possibly read any more of the author's work, or that I would dislike the author so immensely. I would only ever recommend this "series" if it were paperback and someone needed kindling for a fire. Oddly enough, that's pretty apt considering that's exactly what this is - a dumpster fire.

This trilogy, 'The Sky Trilogy: Books 1-3', completely blew me away. Once I started reading, I had a hard time stopping. Each book became more intense, more creative and the further I delved in, so many secrets were coming out. I was thoroughly intrigued. The storyline for each book was well written and well thought out. What an unusual and yet amazing world to be a part of. Jenny Lynne did such a fantastic job at describing what was going on, the descriptive surroundings and the people came alive for me. The characters were an array of individuals with different feelings, thought process and the way they handled their life as it basically was not as it seemed. Seven and Six were amazing characters. I loved how they had complete trust with each other. Even though they were twins, they were still programmed to think and act a certain way, yet they both were selfless and so compassionate. Ten was a genius. I loved his devotion to Seven and the mutual love they shared. Nine and Six were quite the pair. They abided by the rules, for the most part, and became closer for it. I could go on and on about each character that truly moved me, but I do believe I'll leave it at that. A must add to your tbr list. Highly recommended.Â

Did not look close enough and did not realize the book was a library book with the card slot and markings on it. I also did not realize it was the sixth imprinting. Not a great Nursing Diagnosis Book. It has many of the things you will probably need to look up for nursing school, and it is organized well enough, but you can get get much better books for the same price on amazon.My major gripe with this book is that it tries to save space by basically omitting entire sections and referring you to another section of the book that may or may not be related to what you were actually looking for. For example, if you are looking to do a care plan on Risk for Impaired Skin Integrity, it will have NO information in that section (or in Impaired Skin Integrity), and it will just tell you to refer to the Pressure Ulcer section; this is just not good enough.Go buy another book that will actually have information in each section unless your school requires you to have this book in particular.

Someone in the cohort above mine said the director of our program likes to use this text over other Nursing Dx books because it isn't as intuitive and forces more critical thinking...

Not good as an only resource, or if you want to just copy the ideas, but in addition with my other text books and online resources it was a super helpful aid to point me in the right direction of where I want to be with my nursing dx
