Great detailed illustrations, step by step. Really appreciate the history section and the honesty detailing when and where these patterned bands can be documented in the historical stream. Good for a beginner who needs to setup a band from scratch. I also loved the practical use section of patterned bands and the Vesterheim museum examples and documentation. The author/weaver has a lot of teaching under her 'belt' and it shows in her presentation of the instructions.Lovely book, lovely pictures, lovely patterns. Glad I bought it.

A truly excellent book. I bought it for the weaving patterns, and also found the history, vintage equipment, and cultural information fascinating. This book belongs in every weaver's collection, whether you are a novice or experienced weaver. The writing is articulate, the diagrams are clear and the color photography is plentiful. Really a great value.

I received an inkle loom for Xmas and was looking at band weaving to adapt. This is a wonderful book about both the history of bandweaving and wonderful examples plus patterns. Anyone interested in this type of weaving would be well advised to purchase it. I am only a beginner and this has greatly increased my understanding of this traditional craft.

This is the book I've long wanted that specifically showed Norwegian bandweaving over Swedish or Finnish weaving. To see patterns for real bunad bands (like Telemark) is especially welcome. I found the step-by-step instructions in setting up weaving with a rigid heddle (which I've adapted for an inkle loom) to be more helpful than other band-weaving books, especially for a beginner like me. With this book, I picked up weaving again after trying a Nordfjord pattern on a popcicle-stick rigid heddle 20 years ago, and now I can even do "pickup". Thank you Heather Torgenrud!

A wonderful book. I haven't read the whole thing yet but it is just what I like as a weaver. History and technique combined. It is beautifully illustrated and instructions, so far as I've read are clear and there are graphs to follow as well. Highly recommend this book.

More history than patterns and instruction, but it is indeed all packed into this book. If you are a bandweaver or curious about bandweaving this is the one book that will answer your interest and help you frame your next step.

Thoroughly enjoying this book. The pictures are wonderful. I'm really into history and great care has been taken to cover historical aspects of this type of weaving. I'm doing some experimental patterns for bands and this book is so useful. Well worth the price.

This is a beautifully done book, well written, lots of historical photos.I've been fascinated with band weaving for some time and this had just added to it. I've never actually woven a band weaving but I believe the information in book in clear enough for me to give it a try.

This book was an eye opener and timer saver, with concrete techniques on how to implement and work with trees, parsers, lexer, symbol table. This book is a must for all computer geeks. This is NOT a text for understanding a quick, rudimentary introduction to writing simple grammars, getting lexers and parsers for it in your programming language of choice as the introduction will have you believe. Having a hard background in computer science (granted, it is over a decade old), I still found this book a very heavy read. The online help and community for ANTLR is slow or non-existent. It would be tremendously useful if the author wrote a very simple book, without the theory, and directly to applications, and concentrated on implementations on languages like JavaScript. The problem is that this book may have some pretense of being a basic book, but is very far from being basic and befuddles the reader with too much information you likely will find in a graduate text in compiler technology.

Excellent book. As someone who has been curious about the inner workings of building languages and as one who builds interpreters every so often, this book really helped me learn better fundamentals to tackle this problem.Since studying this book, I have built custom interpreters mapping data stored in a custom human readable syntax into object instances at work. This has also allowed for working on an interpreter to map voice commands into executed actions on applications. While I certainly am no expert, this book really helped bring me out of the dark into being fairly proficient at building lexers and parsers and using them in real world applications.Note that I studied Aerospace Engineer formally and study computer science and software engineering outside of that since I love it, so you don't need to be some Computer Science or Software Engineer by education to get a lot of value out of this book.

I really liked this book. I have read the chapter on creating a byte code interpreter and assembler many, many times. I wrote my own assembler and byte code interpreter using this book. If you want to learn how to build your on compiler or interpreter, this book is a good book. Granted, I did not use the compiler generator ANTLR for my lexer because I created my own hand-crafted interpreter. But nevertheless, the book does not focus solely on this ANTLR compiler generator. So, even if you do not use ANTLR, the book will be a valuable asset in your journey for creating a compiler. But if you do use ANTLR, even the better for you because this is the tool the author uses.

This is a great book for those who want to learn how to write and exploit parsing technology to create DSL (domain specific languages) and transform programs using parsing technology when regular expressions won't do the job or are too complex to be coded easily.The book discusses many aspects of compiler technology and interpreter technology. It will help you write a compiler or interpreter using ANTLR3. It goes in depth into the many things you need to know such as - LL(1), LL(k), and LL(*) parsers and symbol tools.The book instructs one in how to use ANTLR - which is the lexer/parser generator which the author of the book makes freely available. ANTLR is the most powerful generator on the market today and used by many companies such as Oracle.To get the most from this informative book, you should also buy "The Definitive ANLTR 4 Reference" which Amazon also sells.Parr is a genius. He has produced the definitive parser generator and the definitive books that enable one to use this generator. Even if one will not use ANTLR, the books are valuable for their overview and in depth discussion of writing compilers and parsers.Note that the book does not discuss some things necessary for writing a world class compiler such as register allocation. I'm using it to write translators from one language to another and in that application its advice is spot on and extremely helpful.

Breaks down aspects of Compilers and other Language Applications into easy to understand patterns. Very useful. Had to relearn Java to implement the patterns... but that's cause I didn't bother translating the patterns into more familiar languages... In first few chapters you get an overview that really lays out the common forms these programs will come in. Very valuable book.

The book reads like a novel but it is entirely based on facts. Hans Jonathan, a 7 year old son of a slave, and therefore a slave himself, moves from the Danish Virgin Island of St. Croix to Kopenhagen in Denmark, where he becomes a war hero. For that he gets his freedom from the Danish king but his "owner" wins the case against the King and Hans Jonathan - before getting sent back to St. Croix - flees to Iceland. This is an important book. Anyone concerned with human rights should read it.

This book is a new " Roots" and it's so thrilling and brilliant. I really want to recommend this book. Gisli Palsson rolls out Hans Jonathan's story piece by piece. Fantastic that so much information can be found about a man, who lived from 1784-1824, from Sct. Croix to Copenhagen and from there to Iceland.The author also takes up out the discsusion about racisme ,- also of today.

A Book the every American and anybody else who is appalled by slavery should have on their "must read" list.

Very well documented

The author throws in much speculation into a work that is intended to be historically accurate. The life Hans Jonathan lived was unique and worthy of notice. The footnotes failed to elucidate the text which annoyed. There was also a fair amount of specious discussion unrelated to Hans’ life experiences. For history, I am glad I read it, but there were a lot of bothersome irrelevancies that made the reading less engaging than it might have been.

The order of the ratio-- say, EUR/USD-- is key to understanding the latter.In part two, the authors get bogged down in a 100+ page discussion of 'fundamentals' of currency trading-- economic events, broadly defined, that can affect currency pairs. *Way* too much information here! The authors would have been more helpful if they had just provided a comprehensive list of economic 'events' and 'announcements,' the approximate release dates, and a brief discussion of how the 'event' or 'announcement' *usually* moves a currency pair. That probably would have covered about twenty pages, instead of 100+.All in all, an excellent primer on currency trading.

I never got bad info from the DUMMIES...added to my library!

Book is a good foundation for currency trading. It has a wide breadth and fairly sufficient depth for anyone to get started. It is presented in an organised and easily digest able manner. However kindle version can be improved with higher resolution diagrams. They are not readable.

Very good overview. You won't become a trader but you'll be reminded of everything you need to keep track of.

I originally checked this book out, from the Library...in fact...I checked it out several times. Since the Library requests, that you return their books, I finally decided I needed this one, on my own personal Forex Training/Educational shelf.Even though it is written, by a GAIN Capital Strategist, the information is presented in an unbiased and completely educational mode.I would highly recommend this book, to anyone planning to learn how to trade in the Forex Market.
