This book really highlights these facts and breaks down the events that happened, particularly after the death of Jesus, for readers who may not be aware of this.I appreciated that the author managed to keep this book scholarly, but without making it so dry and academic that it was impossible for the layperson to read. If you are looking for a place to begin in your study of Jewish culture, this would be a good book to choose.

I purchased this on Kindle expecting the complete text. Howeever, in my expectations, the most important part, the symptom identifier, are not included! The book says they are on the inside cover and the inside cover, for whatever STUPID reason, isn't included. The book itself is very helpful. Shame they blew it up and wasted the book by excluding THE most important part (the reason I purchased the book to start with!).

Many years ago I bought a veterinary book for dogs and it served as a wealth of information over 30 years caring for my 2 dogs throughout their lives. Now I have cats and wanted to be able to also have a wealth of information at my fingertips for emergencies (it seems emergencies always happen on weekends or after hours when the vet offices are closed or no emergency vet is available), basic first aid and home care (when it is safe to not see a vet).In life, I also wanted to be a veterinarian, because my connection with animals is so strong. Such as life does not always go as planned I did not fulfill my dream but still have a strong connection with animals and every now and then will foster a homeless kitten or nurse a sick kitten back to health.This book is not necessarily outdated, as it was published in 2008. I bought the hardback copy and am impressed with the quality of this book being printed on nice paper that is not thin, the print is dark and readable and there is a table of contents in the front and an index in back for quick reference.Like some reviewers have suggested there are pictures of sad, sick cats that are in black and white (my guess is that color photos would be greatly traumatic to view as the black and white versions are heartbreaking enough to view). The pictures, no matter how sad are necessary for properly knowing what illness your cat may have in an emergency situation and these are what makes the book even more valuable.In my experience, it is better to be prepared than not. If you think about it, don't most homes already have a first aid kit and if you have kids, you have supplies on hand for cuts, coughs, and other minor first aid emergencies - so why not do the same for your fur babies?After caring for both of my dogs from puppyhood (one bottle baby) till their old age I learned many things about emergencies and preparedness. Now that I have cats, I am also learning that cats are not as resilient as dogs are and at least being able to understand the basic first aid of cats gives me some comfort that if I ever needed to, I will know how to respond.*Note* In my photos I took the paper cover off the book, but it does arrive exactly as shown in the description pictures Amazon shows. I just don't like the paper cover because they never stay in place when the book is open.

Every cat owner should own this book. It will tell you what your allopathic (traditional) vet will tell you, in more detail. Every cat owner should also own the classic alternative or natural cat care books by Richard Pitcairn and homeopathic book by Don Hamilton, which has been my mainstay and has saved my cat's life. I had the original edition for years and I always get the new edition whenever they publish. I can look up my cat's symptoms and know whether I should go to emergency or whether it can wait. These books are invaluable.

Excellent book. I've changed my home entirely for the benefit of my cats. As a person living by myself, I would never have gotten anything like a first aid kit in case of an actual human emergency. But now that I feel like I have a life depending on me, I've used the book's advice and begun brushing my cat's teeth daily, feeding him high quality food and of course, using the useful list they had in the book to gather a first aid kit. I keep my floor spotless now, in case my cat tries to eat any bits off of it, especially string. I have a different perspective about how to be a cat owner, and how much I can do to help my little tabby live a long full life.

One of those must have books for anyone with a cat. Every pet owner should have a veterinary book around for those questions that come up, yet don't seem bad enough to run to the vet. This is a pretty complete book that I use and have given to others. You do have to get past some sad pictures of sick cats, but better to avoid it and have it there should you need to see that photo, then to not have it there at all. (As an aside: Female cats are very susceptible to breast cancer. Check the underside of your cat regularly for odd bumps or rope like lumps. If detected early, it can save their life.)

Just got my book with one day shipping. It arrived on time and the book is amazing. I would recommend this to anyone who is a cat parent or looking to become one. The only unsavory item I have found so far is the recommendation of the synthetic vitamin Menadione as being part of your cat's dietary needs. Vitamin K is fine, but it's synthetic version is NOT. It can cause liver toxicity and no one needs that on their plate. In other words, the book is great, but cross referencing is always important!

Not quite as good as "The Merck" but still a good read. It is easy to read, especially for those that don't read often enough and are out of form. You don't need a more developed vocabulary and the book is based on general concepts for pet owners with expanded detail on the most important topics. There is little specific medical information supplied with a breakdown of each illness, instead the book focuses on the needs of your cat, what to look out for in terms of health issues and what actions to take when things are looking that great. The authors are both medical/veterinary doctors who have put together a great book that can help any layperson look after their fur baby with confidence. That is, with a better understanding of both their general Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook, Fully Revised and Updatedhealth and medical needs to ensure they have a happy life that compliments their owners.

And if you just want to look up a "why does he do that..." its great to have a reference. So much is online now, but not documented or authoritative. We noticed that in addition to DVMs, there was an MD involved in writing the book. Recommended.

Ken and his daughter Kristen take you step by step, in words AND pictures, making the props, and doing the performance. Each trick also includes a web link to a performance of the trick and graphics for props. Graphics are also found in the book but it is much too good looking a book to cut up.Great size, thick end boards for long life (and abuse), colorful, well laid out (although I'd like to see a bit more border at the expense of font size), and easy to understand.Best of all, Ken explains the secret of magic in the introduction: it's not just about the secrets but also the performance. Magic is YOU!"Why should I buy the book if the I can find the content free on the web?"1. This is a beautifully crafted book2. Call me old fashioned (and I am) but having a tangible item available anytime is more satisfying than to be at the mercy of the local WiFi connection.C. Supporting performers/makers/artists/creators (magicians are all four) is cool. So be cool and buy this book.

I bought this book for my six and a half year old grandson. It was a huge, huge hit. For each trick there is a link to an online video. On a score from one to ten I give the videos one hundred. They are fantastic, The instructions in the videos are entertaining, very clear and are done with humor. My grandson watches them over and over. The book along with the videos is much, much more fun than a ready made magic set because having to make the props for the tricks adds to the thrill of achieving the tricks. This was the best present I have ever given my grandson.

Having two kids (6 & 3 years old), this book has been PERFECT for not only learning how to perform magic tricks for them, but to get them involved with actually doing the tricks themselves! With my 6 year old boy, especially, he's putting on his own shows and trying new things, and that, by far, is the best thing a parent can teach their children. He's gaining confidence, learning how to get in front of people and present, and it's amazing. Our 3 year old daughter, she's a little too young to perform some of the tricks in the way that they are supposed to be done of course, but she tries, and she'll get there, I'm sure.The quality of the book is outstanding too. The content, the pictures, and the feel of the whole book is top-notch, and I want to thank the entire Kelly family for putting this great resource together!

I never leave reviews, but this is so awesome I made an exception. Why this book is the best choice:1. A lot of pictures. Text books are hard to visualize2. Online links to videos. Fun to watch the trick and see what the audience sees.3. 30 tricks?! That's a lot!4. Household items mean we can do ALL tricks with stuff we already have. No buying super expensive pre made tricks5. These tricks are awesome. Not corny simple ones. Even grown ups are getting stumped.

Love the full-color pages, the fact there are easily accessible videos to go with every trick presented in its pages, and the fact the the tricks are broken down and important performance notes are given in addition to the technical details of each trick. I’m a fan of Ken Kelly and listen to his KEA podcasts regularly and am a member of his online magic course. Am proud to own his book.

This is the third book about museology that I've read lately (and reviewed here). The others are "Dry Storeroom #1" by Richard Fortey, about the Natural History Museum in London, and "Curators" by Lance Grande, about the Field Museum in Chicago. This book is about a museum that no longer exists--the Jenks Museum at Brown University, an idiosyncratic omnium-gatherum created as a personal project by zoologist John Whipple Potter Jenks. The museum scarcely outlasted its curator. Though little trace remains of it today, historian Steven Lubar (yes, of Brown) uses it as a jumping-off point for discussions of why museums exist, what they are good for and what they are good and not so good at doing, and how their missions have and have not changed since Jenks' time. He provides deep and insightful, and utterly candid, commentary on the surprisingly diverse views of these issues within the profession of museology. Unlike Fortey and Grande, he includes art, technology and archeology collections in his discussions. There is a lively discussion going on right now about whether museums have gone too far at adopting high-tech tools to engage young visitors; you will find an up-to-date review of the debate in these pages. It is a curious fact that a book about a museum that no longer exists actually has more to teach the lay reader than either of the two current books about major museums that are alive and well. But all three books have their charms; if you are interested in the why, how and wherefore of museums, by all means read all three.While I was reading this book, the business section of the New York Times published an article headlined "A collector's dream: creating your own museum as a legacy" (September 30, 2017). The kind of very personal vision that drove Jenks survives, and the museums that may eventuate will in good time face the same test as the Jenks museum: once the visionary who created them is gone, will anybody care? Will anybody come?

A highly thoughtful, comprehensive and approachable work, Lubar managed to take what could have been a dry topic, and with a deft touch brought both the process and practice of curation to life. In an engaging fashion, he manages to cover the entire museum landscape – art, science, and historical. Thoroughly enjoyable.
