Dr. Richard Louis Miller, MA, PhD, has been a clinical psychologist for more than 50 years. He is host of the syndicated talk radio show, Mind Body Health & Politics. The founder of the nationally acclaimed Cokenders Alcohol and Drug Program, he has been a faculty member at the University of Michigan and Stanford University, an advisor on the President’s Commission on Mental Health, a founding board member of the Gestalt Institute of San Francisco, and a member of the national board of directors for the Marijuana Policy Project. He lives in Fort Bragg and Wilbur Hot Springs, California.

This book takes the form of a series of interviews with researchers who have experience with LSD, mushrooms, and other psychedelics. It is generally pro-psychedelic as medications with potential for some mental disorders, including drug addiction, depression, alcoholism, and so forth. But most of this is opinion and vague recollections of anecdotal experiences. I have no doubt these substances ought to be more readily available to researchers, a position I held well before reading this book (placing them in Schedule I, despite the absolute knowledge that they are neither toxic nor addictive, is absurd). But I gained very little hard knowledge, either. This is more of a casual read, with no real value for research into the subject.
Very lively and informative. The audio sources bring a sense of connectedness with the interviewees in this very fascinating area.
An excellent overview that truly gives the reader a full understanding of the healing potential of these medicines. I especially loved the chapter that outlined the current protocol for mood disorders such as depression because it becomes even more apparent that we need more research to be done now.
A really important book. It's much more comprehensive than any other book on this subject that I know of. The interview style of the book makes a lot of sense given that the research is still in an early stage, and there is a lot of political hurdles that need to be discussed.
Psychedelic Medicine is a series of interviews with leading scientists and doctors who have researched psychedelics for various types of therapy. It takes you through the potential of psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, and ayahuasca to treat with great efficacy and low side effects. There's an excellent chapter on the reality of antidepressants and antipsychotics, which rob patients of their emotions entirely, and have many side effects. It explains what happened that MDMA, a promising and successful treatment while it was legal, was made Schedule I in 1985, and the new research that may make it legal again in 2021. The interview format is a little distracting, but it introduces you to the most important voices in psychedelic research today. I recommend the book for people interested in this topic.
I need to give it a proper read from start to finish. It reads like a dialogue/interview, rather than a narrative-driven exploration of the topic. It is a series of interviews with​ experienced people in the field.

The controversial topic of psychedelic drugs/medicine is here handled trough a series of interview made by Dr. Richard Miller to some experts of the field. What emerges is a very difficult field of research because managing that type of drugs goes with a lot of problem of management. There are some very interesting information but it seems being able to apply what emerges it will take ages because of the law limitations. The strict relationship between medicine, politic and law are in this subject so intertwined that it doesn't depend in the end on the state of the art.
