David Twicken's Eight Extraordinary Channels is a superb text for acupuncturists, meditators and qigong practitioners who want to better understand and practically explore this complex subject. I've known David for 15 years since he was my professor in acupuncture college and have always enjoyed his exceptional talent for communicating complex ideas without over simplification. This book is valuable for beginners who are looking for a cogent introduction and experienced people looking to layer their knowledge with new perspectives. There is also a companion CEU course for professional acupuncturists.

Practical and worthy of consideration in 8-extraordinary study. Not a "heady" book like some on this subject, just a user friendly break down on topic. There were chapters that seemed appropriate for another topic, perhaps another book, but then again inner mediation may be inseparable from the study of the Eight Extraordinary. In this book you have the opportunity to treat inwardly through meditation practices as well as point treatments on the surface. A bonus to some readers, would think.............

Very useful information on an important but somewhat obscure part of acupuncture, shared from a quite integral perspective.

I chose this rating because, although I find the book to be a very clear framework, I would like to have seen sections on profound case histories.I would recommend it to acupuncture students and practitioners

The Extra Meridians are a topic that many acupuncture schools barely cover in-depth. If you're interested in learning more, or you do acupuncture - medical qigong - bodywork and you have this gnawing feeling that there's something really important about these extraordinary meridians and you're compelled to find out more, definitely read this book! Excellent information from a Taoist perspective that provides a depth of understanding that will open up a new world to explore with confidence and creativity.

Corey Barker is a phenomenal graphic artist and photoshop guru. This second book, just like the first Down and Dirty Tricks, is not just for designers. If you are looking to improve your Photoshop skills as well as kick-start your creativity then this book is for you. You will learn valuable techniques for creating your own brushes as well as extracting and compositing images in photoshop. This book is geared toward those folks that are somewhat familiar with using Photoshop and teaches some of the more advanced skills. That being said even beginners will learn more about using photoshop in a variety of ways. For those who are just getting their feet wet with Photoshop I recommend Corey's first Down and Dirty Tricks book.

Corey covers just about every kind of project you might want to tackle in Photoshop. Along with Matt Kloskowski's book on Compositing Secrets, this book serves up step-by-step Photoshop recipes for compositing Hollywood posters, developing customized brushes--and how to use them--and 3d...it's all in here. If you've ever seen Corey give a presentation, you know how thorough he is, and this book is no exception. Every step, and contingency, is covered in minute detail. Photos are in gorgeous color, and they are given plenty of space so you can really hone in on the details. I would get this book, Matt Kloskowski's Compositing book, as well as one/both of his Layers books, and you will be in Photoshop Nirvana.

I had to buy this book for a class in advanced Photoshop skills. The projects were interesting, however, there are a LOT of steps that are left out.I've been working in Photoshop since it came out, and that was the only way I was able to navigate myself to the missing directions. Some were VERY time consuming, and I can't imagine someone without the background that I have in Photoshop actually figuring it out.Honestly, I was frustrated and unhappy with this book.

This book was a quick read, and it follows the clean, concise, visual, to the point pattern set out in other NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) books. There are images to demonstrate practically everything he describes. His instructions are clear, and thankfully lack the ad nauseam detail that bores me to tears. He tells you what he's doing, and shows you, including before and after. That's what I need.While I found the whole book valuable, my two favorite chapters were Chapter 2, the 26 Piece Tool Set, and Chapter 7, A Dream Within a Dream. In Chapter 2 there is a subsection where he takes a plain brown graphic, sort of fleur de lis-ish, and with layer style turns it into a dramatic, metallic, three-dimensional image (without using real 3D techniques for CS5 Extended). It was a very impressive transformation.Chapter 7 is about 3D, which requires Adobe Photoshop Extended CS5, and given the fact it is written by Corey Barker, the Photoshop TV (podcast) 3D guy of course it's great. He explains in the book that he also has a video demonstrating the topic on-line; I personally like the print version. I've see him demo 3D numerous times on the podcast, and seeing it is print, where I can internalize at my speed what he is doing is more concrete. I can then refer to it when I'm actually in front of the computer, turning my company logo into a cool 3D image.He also utilizes the define brush command, which granted, I've done, but really rarely use. He refers to it a couple of times in the book, to again create these 3D type effects, (again without using real 3D techniques for CS5 Extended) like lightening, or a blood splat, and I think to myself, "Now how can I work in lightening?" Because it looks so great. From the Photoshop 3D guy, 3D effects without CS5 extended.

If you ever watched Photoshop User TV you know who Corey Barker is. He usually gets labeled as the "3D" guy, but he is way more than that. He's actually the one person I've seen use every nook and cranny of Photoshop to create really cool designs. In this book he has taken his years of experience and teaching for Kelby Media and put it into something that is easy to read and laid out . It's labeled "For Designers", but I think it's for any creative person who wants to make their ideas standout. Ask yourself this:Have you ever seen a cool poster and wished you could do that?Want to market an item but your ideas look flat?Want to portray people in cool and visually striking ways?If you said yes to any of these then buy this book! I'm not sure how many tutorials are in here, but there are a lot. The tutorials aren't 20 pages long to show you one thing either. They are to the point and easy to follow. If you're still not sure, click over to PlanetPhotosop and watch some of Corey's lessons. I think you'll be back after that. Enjoy the book & share your work!

Perfectly cool book. I'm a graphic designer and I got a kick out of the cool things that I learned in this book. It seems like you go to school and learn all you can, but you always want to keep looking for books that increase your knowledge on the subject that you love, and this is one. I recommend it for professionals and even people that are interested in Photoshop. It helps if you know some of the ground rules in this application before trying the skill set in this book. Have fun. I felt it worked well with CS4 too, since that is what I have.

I received this book today from Amazon. Wow! This is what Tutorial books should be like. Every page has at least two screen shots - more often somewhere like four (love it!). I like this format because I can use it as a fast-access collection of recipes, with the-before, the-after, and all the steps in between necessary to get there in a graphical format. I know about Corey Barker from watching his great tutorials on KelbyTraining. These types of books are a great complement to video training.I found that training is key to achieving excellence. This book helps me get there.

This is the first book by Melanie Dickerson that I have ever read. I LOVED IT! I will definitely be reading her other books! It is a huge plus for me that I still have my “little girl” love of a good fairy tale princess story.It seems to be a stand-alone story even though it is the second book in a series. If characters in this book were in the first one there is enough information about them that I never felt confused as to who each person was.The characters are so wonderfully presented that I was able to connect with them and really understand them. I loved both Rapunzel and Sir Gerek. There are a number of secondary characters that I also felt a connection with.At the same time it was very easy to absolutely hate Mother Gothel and a couple of the other characters, they just oozed with evil intentions. There was no guessing as to who the “bad guys” were in this story.The story development was fantastic. It was definitely a new story for this popular fairy tale character. There were just enough elements that were kept the same so that there was no doubt as to which fairy tale it was taken from.I really enjoyed how much dependence the main characters had on God. As always, Melanie Dickerson delivers on sweet and clean fairytale romance. Set in the fictional town of Hagenheim Germany in 1413, Rapunzel and her Mother have just moved into town. Rapunzel's mother is...off, to put it mildly. She has it in for men and every time one shows an intrest in her daughter, she forces them to move again, which becomes more difficult the older she gets. Rapunzel loves her mother, but it is becoming clear that she needs to step back and make her own life. When she helps an injured knight on the road, she might get her chance, as well as making her greatest dream come a reality – learning to read.The characters in Golden Braid were...okay, I guess. Rapunzel was tough, but sweet as well. However I thought she spent way too much time vacillating back and forth over her decisions, it became slightly tedious to read at times. I could understand her care of her mother and fear of leaving her, but way that woman acted, I couldn't believe she took so long to come to that decision.Gerek I never got particularly attached too. The romance might have beeen sweet, but it fell a bit flat this time. It just wasn't quite up to par with her earlier works. The story was very sweet, though slow, and when the action finally came in, It was slightly difficult to follow.I highly reccomend that you read Dickerson's earlier novel - The Princess Spy - before diving into this one. It will explain a lot, and if you haven't, you might have trouble keeping up with what is happening. Things were challenging enough for me – and I did read Princess Spy first!Safety Rating: please note that it has beeen a while since I read this book and though I hope I have everything listed below, it is possible some details have been forgotten.Romance: Clean. A villain did attempt to attack a girl, but nothing came of itDrinking/drugs: none I recall.Language: cleanViolence: mild fighting, a few injuries/broken bones, and the aforementioned attack.

I mean I knew reading this book that it was a retelling of Repunzal so I knew that somehow she was the Duke's Daughter... duh.. it's obvious, but I was completely astounded as to how Melanie Dickerson made the reunion happen. It was so beautiful!! I cried and got all shivery by the feelings exchanged and the love shared. There was such wise advice given to her ( Repunzal ) by Lady Rose in the book and I found myself nodding with the truth of it. This is the most biblically profound book that I've read by Mrs Dickerson and I appreciated that. ( However, the Captive Maiden with forever be my favourite in this series.... 😊 )The description was as charming as ever, but I did find the book a little slowly paced in the beginning. It came out wonderful though and I am once again reminded of why Mrs Dickerson is my favorite author!Repunzal ~ I cried right along with her... I completely understand being one of the more emotional girls around. Plus the story of Repunzal has always been my second favorite story. Her hair was probably my favorite part of her features because I've always admired long hair, and the fact that it was blond. I loved [ although hated. ( .. ironically ) ] that she was so well guarded in her upbringing that men are dangerous. There was a good and bad side to that, but anyways... I liked that it was mentioned.Gerik ~ I have to say he is one of my favorite male lovers... ( although Valten and Collin are competing with him for first on my list ) Definitely more of a scary but sensitive guy.... which is why I appreciate him so much. I loved his dark hair and the way he tried to hide his love for Repunzal....( she was just so innocent! )This series has me all shivery and excited!! I can't wait to find out how it continues and who marries who and so forth... but now my legs are shaking!! These have got to be the best romance books I've read because the family just keeps growing and Duke William... he is such a good father! *beams* Anyways... now I have to have all of them in easy reach so I can reread them any time... now I'm rambling.*cough* Let me make this clear... my review could have been done in fewer words... Pick / This / Book / Up ...... It / Is / So / Perfect .... You / Will / Enjoy ......Trust me. *wink* * wink*

This "book" appears to have been written by someone who was quite intoxicated. The formatting is horrible and the sentences are atrocious. There MAY be some good information in it, but with the pathetic excuse for writing, no one can tell.

Reading.

I've always like reading Tony's books on fitness and nutrition. This one is a bit different, but also worth the read. Not only is it about treasure hunting, but also about the obstacles and dangers one may encounter. I found the chapters on snakes and insects to be helpful and which at the very least should help with awareness when undertaking treasure hunting whether as a professional or just as a hobbyist. Whereas the state histories as related to treasure take up a sizable portion of the book, I found them to be of great interest and I couldn't help but to skip ahead to my own state's history.

Blood, Sweat and Tea is a book based on the blog "Random Acts of Reality" by a London, UK, based emergency medical technician (EMT), Tom Reynolds (a pseudonym, Tom has now revealed himself to be Brian Kellett). I'm an occasional visitor to Reynold's blog and always found him to be interesting, honest and well worth reading. This first book (there is now a second book called More Blood, More Sweat and Another Cup of Tea) is a collection of some of Reynolds favourite posts from his blog, published in 2006.While it is obviously a book of blog postings, it does hang together as a coherent collection and is very readable. I could spend much longer reading his posts in this format than I could spend reading a screen for.His posts are not sugar-coated and show what life is like in the ambulance service. If I was Reynolds I would be very frustrated in having to put up with the non-emergency 999 calls that waste the time of already busy EMTs. He also talks touchingly about some of the tragic calls that he also is involved with.All-in-all a very interesting read - everyone should read a copy, especially those people who call 999 when they should be visiting their GP or taking themselves to A&E!

This was an interesting read. It is missing the soap opera of Grey's Anatomy and the evil trial and error of House, but it is a read that will give you a peek into the life of an ambulance attendant in London. I am sure it isn't too different here in the states. It is based on a blog:[...]I think this would make a great TV series. Now I am off to read the next, More Blood, etc.

This is a true story of an English ambulance worker. It was a quick read. I enjoy medical novels so this was enjoyable to me. It had a little bit of everything. When you are between genres, or need a change of pace---try this.

I enjoyed reading the real life work life of a British EMT. He writes well and has a great sense of humor and compassion. His humor and compassion comes out in his writing yet isn't maudlin or nasty about the people he encounters in his job. I recommend this book.
